[hometext] => How much do you recall?
[bodytext] => Lets have a look at all things new, the 1950s brought to you.
We were modern as could be; with wonders of the age like these:
To answer phones we had machines! For sneezes, antihistamines.
We invented modems too, power steering; super glue.
Corning ware and non-stick pans. Remote controls for TV fans.
We read Colliers and relied, on Playboy, MAD and TV Guide;
Reader’s Digest, Life and LOOK, Betty Crocker when we cooked.
Til we found a mealtime winner; Tin pan trays of TV Dinners!
Kids first learned to read a lot, thanks to Dick and Jane and Spot.
The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew; Golden Books and Ding Dong School.
Kids had coonskin Crocket caps; Pogo sticks and cowboy hats;
Silly putty, hula hoops; Red Ryder rifles they could shoot.
Cowboy outfits, even chaps; And pistols that went BANG with caps.
Teens were cruising, getting pinned; bopping sock hops in the gym.
Going steady, in the grandstands. Dancing with American Bandstand.
The modern office went electric; With the IBM Selectric.
Carbon paper duplicated what the typing pool created;
Ten key adders counted beans; And we cranked mimeograph machines.
3-D movies made the scene; We watched thru glasses red and green.
And Sony played in stereo, for our transistor radios.
Schools required vaccines you know; when Jonas Salk cured polio.
TV went from black and white to living color overnight.
A rainbow peacock let us see; Bonanza-colored NBC
Life with Father brought us home; to Dragnet, Gunsmoke, Twilight Zone.
Thanks to Rawhides TV fame, Clint Eastwood was a household name.
We were styling yes indeed; Had everything that we could need!
Every generation makes; progress, and of course mistakes...
So here’s to you who never quit..til you made a success of it!

The space age was upon us. Giant wings and motors named after rockets. Yes BB guns for which decades later made some of us famous.
Pink and blue, don/'/t forget those too.
This was great. Then a handshake and a mans word meant something. Yeah the only shortfalls were the crew cuts and duck a/'/s...
Let us not forget the drive in movies and restaurants.
Instant gratification wasn/'/t invented yet. Mail was something that had a stamp on it and was very slow. Oh well, we can always dream can/'/t we?
Thanks for the trip back in time.
Let/'/s not forget Pelvis ..... |

wow, TV dinners, and rawhide.
Jonas Salk I knew, he worked at the University of Michigan,
the lore I learned as a kid, who was born in 1961 the youngest of eight.
Catholic schools, no prisons, no, an understanding of
the fundamentals, the three R/'/s, reading, writing and arithmetic - the dress code, the big prom -
latex paint was old hat by the 1950/'/s, synthetic,
my older brother had a pension for biting on the window sill with his big teeth, which was lead based,
but I think he/'/s okay. Another brother went to Vietnam and came back okay as well. All my sisters were born in the 1950/'/s, they are all still around, and they are all
really kind of cool, there is a wide political gulf between the four of them, from far leftist to right-wing, the right-wing pretty much divided by the catholic religion, oh yeah, she/'/s going to Israel next week to walk where Jesus walked, and early in the morn next to the Sea of Galilee. She/'/s the right-wing, but kind, she taught special ed kids, until later on when she became a school principle at an all girls catholic high school.
but I never lived in the fifties.
You say fax machine, and I was like,
no way man, that is impossible.
Clint is what nearing 90, surely he was born
in the thirties. Scotch tape, neoprene, actually in truth
tv dinners, holy cow, before Television actually took off, how could that be?
It kind of sucks getting old.
What would da vinci say, they all
said, back in the 1950/'/s while reading
The Catcher in the Rye, in high school,
the catcher in the rye was writing his story
during WWII, ran into Hemingway,
tiny episodic escapades that keep people half-way
sane, glossing over times.
Hey, what about Buddy Holly...
I/'/m sorry Softerwarer. I like to think back too,
the dime store, the small kids walking inline
away to some far away pleasure with some loose change
they all dressed in a way that was forced upon them
but would now today seem odd or pleasant.
chickens in the backyard not too far from the city was not strange. the teacher at the high school remembered all the kids throughout the generations,
Robert Frost was close by, and man oh man, there
sure was a lot of racist people.
Peace!
