A portion of my life was stolen
many years ago
It suddenly became clear tonight
after watching a TV show

I have been living my life blind
no regrets to have lived this way
I didn’t know my true feelings
I just lived day by day

I had so much love
but never received the same
I was always made to look like an idiot
and always put in the way of shame

Eventually I started acting out
the ways I was made to feel
Always belittled by others
however, my fate they did not seal

As a teen, I once ran away
but I did not make it very far
Wanting to change my life
that was overwhelmingly bizarre

I managed to climb many mountains
being harassed was only an inspiration to me
It only made me stronger
giving me courage I once did not see

Life is full of surprises
and being a teen can really be rough
There are many times
when you will feel you’ve had enough

Take a deep breath
think twice and call a friend
Tell them you need to talk
it doesn’t have to be the end

Bravo. A wise and well written story of hope and survival. There are always choices--more than we know. We don't always see them though, and it takes many words and testimonials such as yours to get the message out.
Let me be the first of many to applaud your compassion.

From your piece I can tell we have much in common. This is a wise and well put together poem.
