All those tests I faced and more, were leading to this one grand scheme

We are who we are, and what lies before us is for our choices to decide.
And the payment for our great mistakes may end up being our small lives,

small because our world is great,
we impact more than we could know.
The difference between hero and villain
is something easy to enthrall:

a heart that beats with spirit,
a heart that beats with dreams,
a heart that cares for living things,
or makes them cry and scream.

We have an obligation
and it’s not just to our own.
The depth of this is lofty and great,
it touches the unknown

Some say that it is not that way
and arguments begin:
We see it in theft and murder
We see it in those starving
We see it in religion
We see it in atheist
We see it in human rights
We see it in abstinence

A dream that has gone awry. . .
A fading ideal dying.
An ember that needs to be sparked to flame once again
A mystery that only few know,
thought dead but still riving
. . .

Note: This is one of the many poems I have written this year. I know it is a bit of a heavy one, (sorry), I felt obligated to post today as a test to what I have learned in the past few months. My lack of posting during that time is a result of this test to myself. I think I am beginning to understand myself better. I shall not say I am passing, only that I am getting better.

I'm proud of you, Archie! Way to go...So many layers to this introspective write. This line:

And the payment for our great mistakes may end up being our small lives.

Weighty line...Fantastic.

Way to go and well said! You will ,I promise, reach many points in your life when you take stock and measure your own growth. You will be certain that you know all that you need to know, only to cast it away is disgust a few years later! The joy in this life is to take ourselves less seriously, and to approach others with presumed respect they will either validate or vilify.
You should not apologize for your poetry, your partners, or your lifestyle. Others approval is nice but unnecessary. Love yourself and others will seek your company. You cannot stop your maturity. softerware

A perfectly titled poem!!!

You have so eloquently summed up the state of the world.

While somewhat sad, a very enjoyable read.

Thank you, Archie.
