There are some people in this world,
Who just can't turn their back,
When they see others suffering,
For simple things they lack.

Then every year they give their time,
Their money and their sweat.
To help the needy in our land,
Although they've never met.

All those dedicated souls,
Will canvas door to door.
And those who seem to give the most,
Are those who gave before.

It seemed the year of greatest need,
Donations were way down.
The Canvassers were working hard,
To cover all the town.

When they came to a lawyer's house,
Much noted for his greed.
They thought they might be wasting time,
But so great was the need.

Still they decided they would try,
To shame this greedy man,
Just to give a good donation,
At least that was their plan.

So well thought out the plea they made,
Would make the guilty squirm.
To make him feel, if he refused,
Much lower than a worm.

As he stood there so patiently,
And listened to them talk.
Then what he said to them that night,
Was more than just a shock.

He said, “ you want my money now,
For people I don't know.
You think I am a greedy man?
That really is not so.

There are some things that you can't see,
If only you were told,
Perhaps you would not bother me,
Or be so brazen bold.

My wife lies on her deathbed now,
Her doctor bills are high.
If she don't get some money soon,
I fear that she will die.

My daughter's in a coma now,
From auto accident.
Her doctors want to pull the plug,
For she don't have a cent.

My son is in the prison now,
For crimes he did not do.
The judge has set the bail so high,
There's nothing I can do.”

The canvassers were feeling bad.
They said, “We never knew.”
The lawyer said, “I don't help them,
So why should I help you?”

You clever son of a gun! Once again a joke in which the end is quite elusive! I love this style you have. Comedy is one of the greatest gifts to man, and you do it so well. :)
