Fall is breathing in the air
a frosty sullen breath.
The rain it patters on the glass
the wind tosses golden leaves about.

They flutter lightly in the breeze
and bitter-sweet the memories.
Float back to my thoughts once more
as the clouds begin to darken,
like the feeling in my heart.

Another leaf of orange gold
tumbles to the ground.
A season changing once more
I think about my dad.

He loved all the seasons.
Was hard to tell which he liked best.
He loved the fall beginning
and hunting trips in the woods.
The smell of bacon frying in a pan
upon a pile of campfire wood.

I almost can hear his voice today
and hunting stories he had to tell
floating on the frosty air.
A raindrop mixes with a tear or two
I hope a hunting trip for you dad
is on the books for you in Heaven.

sighhhhhh

A very nice tribute. I love autumn myself. My b-dayis the 20th of Oct.

this reminds me of a fall poem I wrote eons ago. All I remember is the first stanza:

"Leaves are drifting softly,
floating on the wind,
with a flutter and sigh
The Mother takes them in"

I wish I could remember more.

Well done on your poem. Good elements and well constructed. I like that you did not employ rhyme when it would have fit. It gives this substance.

Lovely nostalgic read. We all have someone we hold to our hearts and you have put us all in touch with our person and their memories. Your vivid recall speaks volumes of your connection to him still.
How fortunate for each of you! How fortunate for us!

I like how you captured the fall season and
more importantly the way your father poignantly
moves you. I'm sure he'd really appreciate this sincere tribute.
Take care

A bittersweet yet beautiful tribute, Michelle.

Fall is breathing in the air

Excellent job setting the tone.

Big hugs.
