Array ( [sid] => 179456 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Angel Agnes [time] => 2014-10-15 14:51:29 [hometext] => Eulogy I wrote for my mom in the form of a poem. It's the hardest yet dearest piece I've ever done. Rest in peace Agnes Zamoranos 4/20/1952 - 8/20/2014 [bodytext] => Can I actually say that I am a perfect son? No, never.
However, I can proudly say that you are the perfect mother.
I considered you as the super glue of our family
because you held dad and your three sons together.

From day one, you proved to be the ultimate provider and caretaker.
You prepared a lot of amazing food on the dinner table
while the rest of us sat in the living room and watched cable.
You reminded us to say a prayer over our meals.
After that, we ate, ate, and ate…
and ate and ate and ate until we were happy and full.

You took care of us whenever we became sick,
especially me during my asthma attacks.
You gave me all the comfort and medicine to help my lungs relax.
You were a natural nurturer since you worked so hard as a nurse.
You were born with that mentality of putting yourself last
while you put everyone else first.

Before I would go out with my friends,
as I put my shoes on and reach for the front doorknob,
you would tell me to stop, pull out your wallet, and hand me an allowance.
I told you that I didn’t want it because I already had a job,
but I would still take it anyway because I couldn’t win this argument.

In the attempt to find something imperfect about you,
my older brothers made a joke saying that you had OCD,
which they defined as “obsessive cleaning disorder.”
It was true. You were the complete opposite of a hoarder.
You kept the house looking spotless, neat, and pretty
especially your colorful garden of flowers.

You even had a good fashion sense,
one that was simple, yet complimentary and modest.
From manicures to pedicures,
and dyeing your hair different colors,
every day you wanted to look your best.

More importantly, you always knew what was best
because of the strong faith and moral values you possessed.
You believed with such conviction
that all your good deeds done on earth will reward you in heaven.

Over the years, I made to myself a vow to repay you somehow
for the tons and tons of money you have spent
on my food, clothes, toys, and education.
That’s when I started working in the airline industry
so that you can fly for free
and hopefully travel to all the wonderful places you wanted to see.

Sadly, my promise to you was short-lived
as your health deteriorated, preventing you from enjoying that opportunity.
You suffered too much for too long from three rounds of cancer.
It’s bittersweet knowing that your agony is finally over.

I miss you more than ever. I love you forever.
I can only promise to make you even prouder
because you are still watching over me.
You brought me into this life, for that alone I am so blessed.
The afterlife has recruited definitely one of the greatest.
With your shining halo, we can now call you Angel Agnes. Oh gosh, this is one of the most beautiful tributes I have ever read. She sure sounds like she loved her kids with her whole heart. I am more than sure she would feel so honoured to read this poem. I'm sorry for your loss.

This poem was slept on by the masses unfortunately... Just know that this is lovely.

I loved it. This describes what my mom is like. I too have a medical condition & my mom was my rock - she helped me find the strength to bear everything.

Great write!

You conveyed your message beautifully. This poem brought a smile while simultaneously bringing a lump in the ol' throat.

Very lovely poem for a lovely mother, I'm sure.

Sorry for your loss.

Tim
