High in vitamins and proteins
But must be cooked quite well,
If humans are to eat them,
Near outhouses and water wells.

Armadillos and raccoons
Along with opossum and deer,
And alligators on occasion,
Are served at tables there.

Skunks we draw the line at,
Unless it’s sausage made.
Turtles make a great soup,
You can eat it every day.

I bet your mouth is watering,
So head down to the swamp.
We’re going python hunting,
So be careful where you stomp.

Dillos are Florida chicken
No matter how it’s cooked.
Whether you catch it under your tires,
Or with a treble hook.

If you’re a vegetarian,
Crunching carrots with your teeth.
I bet we all can change your mind
With the delicious meat we eat!

I'm Florida born and bred, and I hear your words. Although I was never a meat eater in FL, I do remember my father hunting there. Great write, as usual, nice flow and imagery, and thanks for taking me home again, if only for a little while. God Bless. Thanks for sharing.
