Once upon a different painful time
I did commit my pen to scratch and rhyme
About my mind, so lost in pain
And no my dear,
I am not in that dark, damp place again;
An addled brain, bereft of peace,
Shackled to the yoke of drink
So badly I could never think
Yet now my friend the darkness comes
To wrap me in its dire embrace but no
What is this, tell me that it’s so?
The night rejects me
Yet here in supplication do I bow
Does it fear this sacred cow?
But how I beg you tell me how?
The light pours forth from sober pores
To chase away the night for day
To flow into my mind – rejoice!
I am bourn, compleat anew reborn.
Begone old friend to other climes
To feed on other woes and different rhymes.
For here before you stands a man
And yes you heard when once I ran
I stand, in confrontation stand to challenge
You with inner strength. What joy
No longer am I puppet, toy
I feed on light and would I might
Enjoy this new resurgent life.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for the dedication, it warmed my heart!

The poem itself is excellent; it gives a wonderful insight to the minds of others and the challenges people face.

Great write!! Keep writing, you're an amazing poet, it seems.

Al, I am humbled by your words of dedication. I'm not all that smart, but I've been reading magnificence in words since 1964 'n' I know magnificent strength when I am exposed to it. Ya got it, pard. Keep 'em comin'. Struggle defined, in poetry, has power - for you 'n' others who stand beside you. There's a cowboy in yer corner. Sweet Sobriety is powerful. Kudos.
