I ran in the wheat fields behind our farm
I sang on the stage at the fair
I rode the Ferris Wheel
(And I didn't even get scared)
That summer with you I danced for the first time
I let myself be held and spun on the soft grass
In the moonlight, while the rest of the world
Was silent
That summer with you I tried everything:
I stayed up all night and all day
I chased the wind
I took honey from the bees
And even as I ran, I wasn't scared
Because you held my hand
That summer with you I smiled
Such a small feat, but such an important one
You just drew the optimism out of me
And I was powerless against your laugh
That summer with you I finally did everything:
I drank in the sunlight and didn't even
Care that I was burnt the next day
I watched the sunset and I held
You close so I could savor the moment
That fall I lost everything--I lost you
I lost the sunlight
I lost the power to smile
And it was the knowledge that there
Would never be another summer
That killed my hope of life
Until the next summer when I held our daughter
And smiled at how like you she was already,
Making me do all the things I didn't want for my own good

Breathtaking! Leaves the reader begging
for more details in explanation of what
was the cause of the separation!
Blessings,
Rob
