[bodytext] => I listen as the tree's branches scrape against the window I watch as the rain makes rivers in the unmowed grass I sit here rocking, and tiredly lean back against the pillow I sigh, I know these thoughts will not soon pass My mind takes the road it so often travels I go past the high and low landmarks of my life I feel the knittled cloak of my past unravel Time slices by with the sharpness of a knife My childhood was so fleeting, a wisp of smoke so gray Sometimes it almost feels like a fragment of a dark dream It was not one of love and joy, no matter what they say Many were the days and nights spent in a silent scream I wonder if they ever knew, I wonder if they ever cared I wonder why they never saw the signs of trouble I wore I wonder if they questioned why I would never share The life that went on behind my closed door I've tried to do as all the prattle has said I've tried to push the thoughts into a locked file But to give up your past is the same as dead You must reconcile to it, give up the denial I may not be able to run from those dark days I'll always carry that as a part of my soul and heart But I can learn to make my life better in so many ways I will learn how to accept and love myself for a start I listen to the birds calling me from the trees I watch life go on behind the shadows I look to the sky smiling and fall to my knees Thank you God for helping find the good in me [comments] => 2 [counter] => 95 [topic] => 48 [informant] => dvtpdw [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )
