In the summer dressed in harvest gowns.
The river running swift and deep
mountains grand where pines do weep.

Houses scattered all around, neat kept yards
farm animal sounds, sunflowers worshipping azures skies
apples almost ripe for the sweetest pies.
All lipstick and rouge to cover up the lies.

Cars all lined in many rows.
Each and every Sunday, all dressed up
everyone putting on a show.
Preaching God and how to live
family values, how we must forgive.

Days and weeks and seasons pass.
Autumn comes then winters blast.
The world keeps spinning round and round
barren branch, bitter winds the only sound.

Behind closed doors where noone knows
the secrets fester the lies all grow.
Winter leaves and shuts the door
spring starts over like before
yet winter lingers on, in souls destroyed yet noone knows.

House of secrets house of lies
it shouldn't come as a surprise
yet when the dust settles and the house grows old
the truth comes out with mighty blows.

and winter in torn hearts forever lingers on............

This is a beautifully written poem about a subject that is hard to write about. I appreciate your candor and especially love the line "House of secrets, House of lies" -- few lines every achieve that abount of music in them and convery so much by so little. Good job! --FlintHunter
