The genes he inherits from a talented mother?
His ability to write lyrics that flow and rhyme
in two or three or more of his lines?

How about pictures that he forms in your mind,
provocative, common, accepted, sublime?
We're on the right track with imagination;
It's time to bring this train to the station.

I want a poet who
is sure and pure in
all that he tells us,
regarding the text.

I want a poet who
leaves me in
laughter and
bits of ridicule.

I'll take a poet who
makes me think and
doesn't care about
breaking the rules.

I want a poet who
tears at my heart and,
makes me feel the
pain in his soul.

Give me a poet who
educates me and
leaves me wanting to
set a goal.

I want a poet who
can paint a scene of
love, disaster,
devotion or peace.

I'll have a poet who
feels when he writes
like an actor
playing a role.

I like a poet who
cares about God and
stands his ground and
won't appease.

Yes, any fool can write about love,
and twist his words to rhyme.
It's most important for a reader to feel,
experience, envision and learn.

Plato, Aesop, Shakespeare, Browning,
and all the greats, present and past,
cared not about phrasing, rhyming and rules,....

they just wanted to join their souls with yours.

*Lady Poets: Please don't be offended by the references to only males throughout this work. I'm from the Stone Age and learned to use the 'male' gender when not being specific.
