Down South

Swiftly now and down South a ways Where the moss grows Thicker than mud And molasses, And the mosquitoes Mark their targets Fine Where peaches chat idly On church pews and porches About How dreams about leaving Would suit them just Fine
Down far enough To see the old city heat Still berating the new And the white wash Still souring at mid-afternoon The hands of a few reckless boys Caught cussing and fighting Down where the town drunks Down a bottle or two With mouths full of chew And a broken mans dreams
Go swiftly now and stay Down to Georgia Alabama Louisiana way Down yonder to the holler Or mud hole or hill Where Heavens feverish Shrill still brings Hope to the world

| Nice one. Although I've never been anywhere in your country this certainly had me believing I was down south. A very enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing. |

This line jumped for me;
'Where the moss grows
Thicker than mud'

I intend to, hopefully in the coming year (although the mozzies aren't a good selling point). But those peaches on porches - Whoohoo!
just gets better on the re-reads. My poem of the day.
