To Father sky,
And there
Seek the shadow of the future as it swoops
And circles.
For in the eye of the eagle is his path
The first steps.
Each talon, a marker
To complete his destiny.

Loyalty
Hardship
Strength
At one with Nature.

Every feather earned and plucked from the messenger
Of the Great Spirit with no harm
To life
Will he be brave?
Worthy enough?
To earn the right?
The right of passage to become a man.

Without feathers there is no
Responsibility.
No wife nor child.

And even after he is proven
Then his spirit is humbled with
Preparation for honour.

His body denied.

At one with Nature
He finds his eagle and
Proudly wears two feathers into battle
The others are carried with him
At times of importance.

His life displayed

Until enough are counted
For him to be found worthy
To lead
as

Chief

I can actually hear the wise ol' Indian grandfather telling this to his grandson. Nice.
