Since my encounter with the gargoyle my mood had changed.
I knew for a fact that Melissa was within me, sharing my soul;
In fact it was her purity and righteousness that had saved me.
Innocence and decency had overcome and destroyed corruption and evil.
Every morning was not just a new day but a completely new life.
As the sun rose from its slumber and ascended the skies to replace the moon,
I was to be found marvelling at the transposition from darkness to light.

My morning walks had become a ritual for me, not a solitary amble
Because she was with me feeling the frosty grass beneath our feet,
And watching as the morning rays of light brought colour to nature.
Autumn is such a beautiful time, crisp, fresh, with every hue and colour in the trees.
It was at night though that was the most emotional time for me.
As I remembered that horrific night I still walked the same path through the woods,
But now felt safe, or at least I did until the night that the gargoyle returned.

Wrapped up warmly against a cold evening I walked the forest trail under a cloudy sky.
The gargoyle was on all fours, sinew and muscle taught, that same bony skull
With those evil eyes trained directly at me. I did not feel afraid but it was not alone.
Standing in front of the gargoyle was a figure wearing a cowl, head bowed and motionless.
It was obviously superior to the creature for the latter kept a discreet distance to the rear.
Slowly the cowled figure raised its head and all that could be seen were two red slits.
These eyes held me transfixed as it made its way toward me one arm outstretched.

I tried to move but all my muscles were unresponsive and the figure was almost upon me.
The beauty of the forest had changed to one of menace, the temperature dropping severely.
So cold indeed was it that twigs were cracking, snapping and falling from the trees.
On the forest floor fallen leaves were lifted into the air and began to swirl as if in a tornado.
The moon was completely obscured and the entire scene was now shrouded in mist.
The figure was right in front of me, no discernable features apart from the slit-like red eyes.
Laying a hand on my chest I felt my essence begin to seep out of my body and I sunk to my knees.

I was alive but empty of emotion, memories and passion. I had lost my soul to this creature.
Melissa appeared, not white but shrouded in blackness, a silent scream etched upon her face.
I wept uncontrollably but still heard the words: “She is ours”.

The Gargoyle’s Revenge

Since my encounter with the gargoyle my mood had changed.

Innocence and decency had overcome and destroyed corruption and evil.

Perhaps toeing the prosaic line, but the return of the gargoyle and its superior returns the focus, I think. I like the word choice of "essence" for what is seeping out of you, an almost physical emptying of a spiritual element. Also the "silent scream" is a very strong image. Well done. I think you should turn this into a short story.
