[bodytext] => The fight is over, the battle won But to my eyes it has just begun Victory at last, but all in vain A moment of glory and then this unending pain Blood and smoke every where I see Its hard to rejoice in this victory There lies a friend, here lies an enemy In death, they look just the same to me All thoughts of valour have left my mind If only I can leave these memories behind Through it all there’s an ironical hope I can see That the horror of it all is numbing the inside of me I breathe a sigh and continue what I had begun The grief can wait, there’s a job to be done I pick up the spade again, I need to dig deep So that none disturb the brave men as they finally sleep My friend and my enemy buried side by side As I lay them to rest, a voice says inside May the blood that was shed today, forever hounds Screaming there are no winners in war, only death resounds.
