Day’s clarity succumbs to night;
Reason slopes from esteemed height.

Dwelling in night by day becomes norm;
Pure character morphs and changes form.
What once gleamed true, honest, and bright;
Slinks, scurries, and shrinks from sight.

What now remains is an empty shell;
Soul engulfed and destined now for hell!
Darkness prevails and all is lost,
To dwell in night comes with great cost.

How can life be saved from endless shade?
Can truth and honor once more pervade?
If such answers where yet free at hand,
The supply shall never outweigh demand!

I really liked this. I get almost the sense that we as mankind sold ourselves to the darkness in hopes for prosperity, but we came to the dim realization that life in the darkness was not prosperous at all. Instead we found our world corrupted and seemingly hopeless. If you think about it, our wold has fallen into such sins. There's corruption, bribery, blackmail, murder; some people will do anything to get ahead. Still, I feel a glimmer of hope in the last paragraph. It poses an uncertain question, but the last line, resonant in it's perfect pentameter, offers a cross between a warning and a nearly prophetic promise of what could save the world.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
