Ed Iacona

A divorce is what she wanted, not I.
Her freedom, a new life and new route.
Our loving marriage cost little to enter,
But so much more to try and get out.

Never mind the cost of tears and trauma
Caused by her misbegotten mystical journey
Yet another bitter pill to swallow is
Dealing with a marital attorney.

Their ads give hope and understanding
Pledging to defend rights without a doubt.
Until one meets for a consult to find
That is not what it's all about.

We speak about my problems
As they assess every asset,
Their interest seems to center
On what they think they can get.

The talk of my sad situation
And a strategy quickly fade
To their more important agenda of,
How much and how they're paid.

Shakespeare penned a lethal thought
For those hired to defend their employers.
"The first thing that we do," is said
"Let's kill all the lawyers!"

That is a line from Richard The Sixth,
And while such mayhem should restrict us.
After giving it some careful thought, I ask,
What jury would want to convict us?

This flows well. Such a grave delivery of a grave topic. Yet it drew a wry smile from me reading the last two stanzas. I hope things turn out ok for you in all that.

Moxie,
Got divorced about 11 years ago - I know exactly
what you're saying here.

Good luck to you, my friend. As far as lawyers are
concerned ......... maybe just a bit of re-training
would help - just to remind them that it's the
heads and hearts of human beings that they are
dealing with.

Tommy

My lawyer called about 3 weeks after my divorce and asked why she hadn't heard from me...when I told her that i was just too sad to deal with anything she said she hadn't realized that I cared!
I with Shakespeare all the way!
Thanks for sharing...

Too good, too true. I really liked this. This is another one I wish I had written myself as it really speaks to me!

Thanks,

Tim

It's good to be able to smile despite what sad things may be going on in your life.

I concur with the others. There is something amazingly powerful and true about
the last two verses. So much pain, despair and suffering falls at the hands of those
blood suckers. (But I'm not bitter .. :P)

Excellent piece. It really speaks of the emotion and distaste for those who
would prey on our most troubling times. You speak the truth and Willy WAS right.
The only good lawyer is a dead one. I ABHOR those adds on TV. Too lazy to
chase the ambulance ... now they want the ambulance to come to them!

(Question :What do you call 1000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
Answer: A start)

Hope you feel better. This can't be easy for you.

~ Breezy

This is sincere, powerful, and flows brilliantly. It's rare to find these 3 things in combination these days. I really felt this. Nice work
