so they had to check out of their room.
The sky let lose and as I watched
I felt such a sense of gloom.

Off the pair walked as the rain poured down
and the wind was such a bitter cool.
Hoping they would be fine out in the storm,
there was nothing that I could do.

I felt the tears brimming my eyes
it mixed with the mood of the day.
Off they went out of sight
I hoped for them a good, safe day.

Ralph and Lacey are back tonight,
he had enough for a room.
He told me a tale about the police
and how they woke him early this morning.....
(from their bed of wet grass in the trees behind Fred Meyer)

They took his license and ran it through
and gave him a fond what for.
"You have to go and dont come back
you are tresspassing sir."

The day before while standing in pouring rain,
on the side of the freeway,
with his sign of cardboard now wet
a man pulled up and yelled,
"I don't want to see you back here again tomorrow"!

While he was telling me these things
just a moment ago,
I felt a surge of anger within
who in the hell do these people think they are?

"I don't want to see you here again tomorrow"?
And what, what does this bad man think he would do?
It infuriates me when times are so hard
that people cannot understand........
Instead they are ignorant , rude and mean
instead of trying to lend a person a hand!

So in a little bit, Gary and I decided,
that our food again tonight we will share.
That is the plan, a meal with our new friend
just to let him know that in this world
there are still people who give a damn!

as times goes on.......... these poems about Lacey and Ralph shall continue

sweetie, you have a great big heart, you know that? And I'm so glad
that you let your new friend know that there are people who DO care.
Who WILL do the right thing. The humane thing. Good for you hun.

This is so sad to read. It's disgusting how we'll send out our men and
women to fight and DIE in another war and won't lend a hand to a
starving man right next door. Where is the humanity? Life is definitely
screwed up.

Great post, hun.

*hugs*

And it's things like this is that make me wonder, "why can't I win big time on the lottery?" I would help Lacey and Ralph. I've been saying this since at least 2005...perhaps before. But there are people that have that kind of money, like Mariah Carey and her $10,000 puppy!!!!! I know some might think my thoughts are "socialism, but I don't care. If everyone that made that kind of money had to help X amount of people with that excess money, there would be a lot of poeple better off than what is happeniong today.

Anyway, love the story, Shall. Keep 'em coming! This brings tears to my eyes!

Hi Shel,
Once again you've captured the plight of Lacey and
Ralph and shown the good and dark side of human
nature. 'Socialist' doesn't always have to have
political connotations - it literally means 'one who
is friendly, affable, and a ready companion.' You
and your husband are all of these!

Keep up the good work, and keep us informed!

Tommy

Nice work. Standing up for the downtrodden. Somebody has to.
