[bodytext] => HUMAN DIGNITY

I became a nurse,a care taker......
Never knowing what this job entails
Never knowing it will become my passion.

I am still young
yet I feel so mature with human dignity.
Thats what a dying patient thought me.
She told me
"nurse would you please wash me
cause you always smile so sweet"
I did it gladly
She was a nice old lady.
I washed her and left her to rest.....
a few minutes later she was declared....
........dead.........
It made me think.......
Cleanliness must be next to godliness
cause all that lady needed for her trip to heaven was to be clean........
Besides the fact that she was relieved of her pain
I thank that moment for what it thought me.

I can go on and on for days
So many things I have learned from people in need.
Like when I delivered my first baby as a midwife.....
I held that new life in my hands first.......
I cut the life line to its mother......
I watched that little boy take his first breath.....
I had tears with her.
so glad I could share her joy.
A memory no one can destroy.

And then the man who thought me to be strong.
He was blinded by a gun shot through his brain
at the age of 14.
than on his way to work a bus hit him......
dragged him 50 meters.......
His leg had to be amputated....
His pelvis was fractured in so many pieces........
You would think this would kill him?
No not this man
He always smiled,always inspired,always motivated.
He told me dont ever quit!!!!!!
He didnt.........his not dead yet......
I take his strenght with me in my heart
not even that much pain could kill his spirit.

I can tell a million stories
Maybe I should write a book about it?
Never the less this is my little piece of humanity.
Being a nurse, a care taker
and through that I take all that human dignity with me.

This is a truly stunning piece of writing. Every positive quality of the human soul radiates from these words. Anybody (like me) who has lost faith in humanity MUST read this poem. Superb.
