The clamor of the silence,
shatters the panes of my sleep.
Dreaminess breaks the continuance
of the reality, where closed eyes weep.

The days present prophecies of grotesque horror,
my reflection I find in wretched shape.
So much I have witnessed my own plunder,
into the anonymity of darkness I would rather escape.

Lack of illumination breeds such solitude,
so comforting and so compromising to my state.
I let the dusk become a mere prelude,
to my days which begin dark and late.

Music and drama I discover in the silent and bleak,
great plays staged, and symphonies weaved.
Many questions created from the answers I seek,
so many nights spent, the demise of sleep grieved.

"so many nights spent, the demise of sleep grieved" thats a great line - you really express the feelings of an insomnic well. i like the way the rhyme is subtle and creates sufficient rhythm to make the poem flow like your thoughts. you might enjoy my poem 'sleepless circles', its also about insomnia. great poem, keep them coming, Kate x

This is a great poem. It describes me to a tee.

"the days present prophecies of grotesque horror" - gorgeous description of one finding comfort in the fact that all others are in bed. The connotation of sleep as a "demise", that it inhibits creativity, enlightenment - intense!!!

Insonmniac poetry, hey? You have a tendency toward circumlocution much like myself, and a bad habit of making the reader think. I can feel your mire; the sensations of wanting sleep, yet being torn from repose by restless rhetoric and infinite loneliness is often a matter that rattles my own mind

Vividly done.

"Caressing lies are sugar sweet; their aftertaste none can compete."
~The Palatine Poet
