She told herself that it was just a crush, and it would last a week or two
But her heart proved her mind wrong, and she was shocked to feel
The girl who could never fall in love fell head over heels.

She never believed in love or destiny or any of that kind of thing
Not until you sauntered along, and from Cupid's arrow, she felt the sting
Just like that, she was under your spell; caught between two sides
The wrong side lost by a mile, and the win came from the right.

The girl who never needed anyone at all, yes, I am glad to say
She needed you more than anything else; she needed you to stay
She was like a beautiful butterfly, vainly trapped within a net
But she had no need to escape; it was as good as it could get.

Some people ask me how and why I could know so much about her
They wonder how I could write this poem, and be so completely sure
I just smile knowingly, and simply tell them I have no regrets
Because I was that butterfly, caught in that net.
