"Look Mommy, a falling star!"

His mother sat back and said,
"Yes, yes. Now make a wish,
real quick!"

"What shall I wish for?"
the child pondered
for a length of time.

"Wish now dear,
before its gone!"
Is all his mother said.

"But Mommy,"
he cried in frustration.
"I don't know what to say!"

"Wish for some riches,
some clothes and some toys!"
His mother said with greed.

The child just stood there,
wringing his hands,
for - love,
was his only need.

That last line was brilliant - I think it was the surprise rhyme, gave it that extra jolt on top of the message. I like poems that don't rhyme, but have some of those "surprise" rhymes at unexpected places. That's just my cup of tea. Good work.

Sounds like Mommy needs to learn from the innocence of children...or in this case, her very own son. It's unfortunate that adults lose the innocence of their childhood... and perhaps the ability to show love. Anyway, a nice little read there. Spring cleaning? ;-)

Thanks

Tim
