[bodytext] => George Best..........Where do I start? His football skills were a work of art, He was born in Belfast 1946, He used to drink to get his fix. At 17 years old he had his debut with the mighty reds, His football skills used to turn many heads. His fans were far and wide, And he usually had a woman by his side. His football skills in Europe was watched with awe, The fans would scream and shout for more! In '68 he won football of the year, No doubt celebrations involved a beer. He played with legends Charlton and Law, In '72 he had finished with football feeling it was a chore! He had so much ability on the pitch, Twisting and turning, using either foot he sometimes scored six! The women in his life would come and go But hitting the bottle was his all time low. He wore the legendary number 7 shirt, You could see the booze was now beginning to hurt. He gave up the drink for many years, But it always seemed to end with tears. Back to the bottle he would turn, Would this legend ever learn? We have our memories of the fantastic player and the man We also read more about his life going slowly down the pan. Let's hope today's footballers have more support, And the skills they have are on the pitch and out of court. My final words to this legend are...... Your football skills we will never forget. Your drinking was watched with sadness and regret. May you finally rest in peace dear George Best, You certainly stood out more than the rest.
