If only I would have known
So many things I would have said
So many emotions I would have shown
I would have hugged you tighter
I would have held on longer
I would have asked you so many questions
Just so I wouldn’t have to wonder
I would have asked you for advice
And I would have saved it for now
Just so I wouldn’t be so lost
Because you are not around
I would have told you how much I love you
I would have begged you not to go
I would have asked God to let you stay
Because I can’t do this alone
I would have stuck around longer that day
If I knew it were our last goodbye
But Dad, you didn’t warn me
You didn’t tell me you were going to die
I didn’t know I was going to lose you
My Dad, my coach, my best friend...
I wouldn’t have let go that morning
If I knew your life was going to end
I would have listened to your laugh more carefully
I would have focused on your eyes
I would have taken in your scent
I wasn’t ready for tough goodbyes
I would have prepared myself for this
It wouldn’t be so unexpected
I would have seen it coming
And I wouldn’t have been so affected
There is so much you should have been here for
So much that you’re gonna miss
So many memories that we should have shared
But those memories won’t ever exist
You won’t be able to see me graduate
You can’t walk me down the aisle
You won’t be part of being the first witness
Of my baby boy or girl’s first smile
Everyday seems to be a struggle
To let go of the past
But the truth is when it comes to losing someone
The pain always seems to last
I know I can’t count on you being here
Because heaven is way too far away
But for now I’ll hold on to the notion that
We’ll be together again someday

Michelle,
this is simply heart breaking. You captured each emotion with such painful detail, written wonderful.
I am so sorry for your loss......

It is tragic the feelings that come when death strikes near us....... I have gone through this the past month with a family member. It hurts deeply.

May peace and comfort bless your heart.

Hugs
Michelle
