Could Living for Something be Something Wrong?

Contributed by Franciswolf on Friday, 22nd June 2007 @ 04:22:25 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Everybodys crazy
I heard it on TV
Theres poison in the skies
Theres oil in the sea
I once had a purpose but I went and fulfilled it
Now its gone
And I wonder
Could living for something be something wrong?

There is an autistic boy
He rides down my street
With a safety helmet atop his head
And bright red converses on his feet
He wants to cook for a living
But I doubt he cooks well
Id never eat at his restaurant
Now Im dining in hell

With a handful of old clothing
And a blue visa card
We travel the goodwill
We manage the yard
Theres a grimy old jacket for two dollars
It looks good on my soul
Im going to pay with my ignorance
Im not in control
Their playing ghetto rap
Someone must have died over these songs
Could living for something be something wrong?

Go Army
Come see me
Ive got some bad news
Dead babies in Iraq are sending the blues
Maybe if I stay here and shake my head angrily
Their ghost wont visit and haunt over me

I got change in my pocket
But you see, I dont trust your sign
You put in no valiant effort
There are no clever lines
You sure suck at being homeless
Why dont you just move along?
Could living for something be something wrong?

Dark glasses
Black masses
Abortions and crime
Youre running a circus
Youre loosing your mind
Theres a president in Washington
A Pope in old Rome
Evils a friend when youre feeling alone
And everybodys crazy
I heard it on TV
Theres poison in the skies
Theres oil in the sea
I once had a purpose
I fulfilled it now its gone
Could living for something be something wrong?

I really enjoyed this so true to the world in which we live these days... yes I follow your thoughts here at times. Some keep saying with a collective thought we can make changes at times I often wonder.Such a state of affairs. As always your poem touched me.

Wow. I loved this. It just became one of my favorites. It sadly so true, and so well put. Amazing.

A very touching and thought-provoking poem in that it is so relevant to everybody who reads this and it exposes inner thoughts and doubts that I'm sure a lot of people will have experienced at one time or another.
In a sense I found this poem unsettling, and I've found myself unable to think of anything else than your words. That is when I know I've read a good poem!

Take care,
Dom

Wow it was like riding a rolly-coaster I wasn't sure where the valleys and hills peeked. Interesting and left this reader thinking.
