Beneath the trees and across the stream
I used to walk in carefree freedom
A soft and gentle perfect dream

And I led a blessed life
Grace and beauty did abound
Until that fateful cursed day
And that fateful cursed sound

A twig snapped as it gave way
Beneath the foot of a winged man
But he laughed and smiled sweetly
As only an angel can

And he sang a song of love
And captured me within his spell
And so in beauty and grace I rose
And so through beauty and charm I fell

For in the song of sweet devotion
There ran an insidious lie
That if only I fell in love too
He would teach me how to fly

And so he danced with me in sunlight
And his voice rang true and strong
And though I tried to walk away then
I couldn’t fight his charm for long

And in that moment I became his puppet
And danced upon his golden strings
And though I was not an evil person
For him, I did many evil things

But the one that plagues my dreams
And causes my wounded soul to bleed
Is how I cursed all humanity
And left them to want and need

And this darkness that consumed me
Would eventually kill me in the end
And because of my actions
I was exiled from the land

And now I see my home no longer
It has faded into myth and lore
But I cut my golden threads
I won’t be a puppet anymore

Amid the mist and dappled shadows
Beneath the trees and across the stream
I used to walk in carefree freedom

Wow! That was beautiful I always like to point out the part that seemed the strongest to me but it was all so wonderful! Although I think the lines I loved the most were
And in that moment I became his puppet
And danced upon his golden strings
And though I was not an evil person
For him, I did many evil things
LOVED it well done!

This seems to be a departure for
you. You've told a great story here.
I like how you set the atmosphere
at first. Amid the mist and dappled
shadows. That really drew me in.
The story was great as well.
All in all I enjoyed it very much.
Good work , Truly , Doug

A very poetic rendition of the fate that befell, our poor Eve.

This is a very old and familiar tune. And one that, I fear,
is played over and over again with new musicians ..

Lovely write, but gosh some of those stanzas really tug
at the old heart strings, especially that last one.

exquisite ~
