A Wake

anguished

At the rural pace where the land is trained and fields lay fallow. The patriarch passed in a clutch the workers laid him on a table in the Living Room.
There he sat for 3 days before the coroner came to move him right into the grave but each night we just stood by his frame.
The first burns the worst mamma had just washed and bathed him, in such tenderness, her tears became his goose flesh caught over a hunters blind.
Alone after each departed the wind whistled through cracks and spoke in whispers 'bring him back oh God Lord don't let him go...' I pressed my forehead to his head... imploring, sobbing the breeze in cold drizzle falls hard upon the river of sorrows.
Flowing from pleading begging, groveling... No, No, No Dad I'm only 12, the fields cried all day 'I need you' 'Oh Jesus, please heal him...'
Each night then and many there after... Stood by the fable and the stone that marked our greatest loss the cold memory of touch becomes a haunting ghost.

some truths transcend their manifestation & I believe that in this we find a fine example of this reality...as the truth here touches the 12 year old boys heart again & again...
May the arms of sleep hold you tight,Sweet Prince

My dearest AJ~ I needed more than a tissue, I needed a whole box of them. I re-read this over and over again and with each write I felt such a heavy pain in my heart. Back then what words could you say to bring comfort to a 12 year old boy? Even now at a time like that? Sue gives AJ~ a big *heartfelt hug* a memory like that stays embedded into ones mind forever~ I'm so sorry for the loss of your father and I'm so sorry that things happened the way that they did. May his soul rest in peace.
On the wings
of death and sorrow
God sends us
new hope for tomorrow--
And in His mercy
and His grace
He gives us strength
to bravely face
The lonely days
that stretch ahead
And know that our loved one
is not dead
But only sleeping
and out of our sight
And we'll meet in that land
Where there is no night...
Helen Steiner Rice.
A very well ascribed piece that deeply touches the heart~
with much love from ur fan/friend~

Aj,
I am with Sue on this one a box of tissue indeed. I felt a heaving pain near my heart while reading this. I felt the wind and the haunting of the soul in the midst of loss.

Dearest Aj .. I am at a loss .. you have caught
me in a moment of intense emotion .. I have
dealt with my own losses, but am stilled and
quieted by this .. your expression of pain and
sadness for a loss that should never have to
be endured .. but inevitably will be by all
human life is fragile .. it is temporary .. but this
fact, does not negate the suffering of losing those
that are most dear. Peace to you, my friend and
thank you for sharing your pain with such gentle
fortitude.
*hugs*

I lost my father some years ago. I too wrote of him, but not for years. It was too hard, but I am glad I finally did. This is so well done, it comes right from your heart and that is the best kind of write.
Thanks so much for sharing this, you have brought back fond memories and feelings of him that I miss. |
