Array ( [sid] => 127058 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Death of a romantic drunk [time] => 2006-10-17 15:09:02 [hometext] => I read in the papers the other day about a alcoholic drunk who was found dead. thought id write this poem in memorie [bodytext] => Nobody cared that night he didn’t show up
No one seemed to notice the empty bar stool
The space unforgiving,
The sweat drenched cushion thick with ash
The tears wiped from the bar,
The drunk wiped from the pavement.

Didn’t see that coming, a red rose in hand
Took him damn near 20 years to pluck up that courage
The girl of a thousand words in thought
The light of his life
She didn’t know.
A poem once forgotten
A rose undelivered
A tired romantic drunk
Asleep at last.

Good write. So many die alone and no one to remember. What a sad feeling this poem brings. Makes me think of folks, I'm sorry to have seen on my life travels. "Asleep at last" ..just moved me.
Peace, Laura
