If your family don't write or send you a dime

It's waiting on visits that never take place
from friends and loved ones that have forgotten your face

It' making plans with someone that you know
but, their plans changed, they had to go

It's having them say how much they care
but, in time of need they are never there

It's having a promise that goes to your head
but, when push comes to shove, they leave you for dead

It's feeling love, honor and pride
pains and emotions all trapped inside

It's expressing yourself to loved ones and friends
but they can't feel the pain of being locked up in the pen

It's calling home and hearing the block on the phone
but, you maintain, realizing that you are on your own

it's really messed up when your doing time
it's called prison life

I can't imagine being in prison. That would be horrible. If you don't mind me asking what is he in prison for?
