Excess the only tool the devil has
It is wanting more, that causes sin
Eating is good - but not too much
Drinking is good - but not too much
Too much emotion, too much thought
A little jealousy is good, it spurs you on, but not when all consuming
To love oneself is good, but not if at the selfish cost of others
Excess is the only tool the devil has
To be happy with what you need and deserve
But humankind to progress must be discontent
A spanner in the works there
A devils tool, have we misjudged?
To know what is right
First we must do wrong
Too much freedom, how do you measure that?
Too much love, can it be so, Oh for sure!
Can there be too much peace?
If the world is at peace, surely that means, we have all the answers
Are we there yet?
I don't think so!
Every new innovation will be used to it's excess
To find the levels that it's used at best
But the damage of the excess experiment always needs to be mopped up
Excess power taking a lot of mopping
Too much pity, too much sympathy
Stops anger needed to move on
Is the devil so obviously bad?
That excess goodness can not be his tool too?
The road to hell is paved with good intentions
Maybe we need to pass through hell on the way to paradise
A zealot in any form is going to excess
In spurning the devil, you sin
