[bodytext] => THE REWARD IN FAILURE…(©Peter Sprenkeler)
Seems a high profile footballer in a moment of weakness, Dishonored himself…and fled in total shame. A moral failure much magnified by his sporting stature, An icon…a legend and hero…in his much loved game. But to his credit and with manly courage, He faced those he had hurt with apologies sincere. He owned the mistakes…and sought forgiveness, Longing for acceptance…the debts to finally clear. There is a reward in failure…a personal strength grows, The ability to stand and go on despite a mistake profound. An ability to learn and develop a powerful character, The capacity to admit wrong and change…truly can astound. He approaches all concerned with 'hat in hand', With integrity…trying to make amends. Surely a great message to all his young fans, Despite shame and embarrassment…surely his effort sends. But I feel it is the adults whom he will find most difficult, For it is with those he must associate and live. And sadly it is a fact of life…that adults unlike the young, Will find it much harder…of his mistakes to forgive. To Wayne…I wish you well in your efforts to rebuild your life. My advice…get out there and do what you do best…play magnificent football…and forgive yourself.
