I would love you;
For the man you are,
Is surely more than I deserve.
I would be grateful for
every breathless kiss,
but I am not set up for this,
Pulling far away, walls erect-
This is what I learned.
If you had only come along
when I still believed in fairy tales,
Before happily ever after
violently blew up in my face.
Had I looked into your eyes
A second before color left my life
And I realized falling was a chance
I could not afford to take.
If memories could somehow be erased,
And heartaches really faded with time-
If this pain would let me let you in,
If I was ready to live again-
I would make you mine.

Great write my dear. But you don't want to pass up on something you maybe should have had long ago. The fear of being hurt can push away someone we really need. On the other hand truer words were never said....Mike....Welcome back!!!!!

This is truly, a story of poets.
We all have this impediment juliette-

a curse upon us.. to counter our gift.
Your poem is terrific and bold.. yes.

Oh, I like this piece. And I have to agree with Billy.... 'tis often a poet's curse to feel the pain a bit more entirely than others do. It can and does move us to build those walls. The lovely thing is... we so entirely celebrate their falling as well, when the time is right. Trust your instincts, Juliette --- a poet's heart doesn't just whisper when it's ready... it wails. You'll know when it's time.

Finding much here that I could relate to,
