An old man awakes
Poor and hungry
But still he waits
For something to happen
For someone who cares
Why he is there

And I wonder
What he lives for
How he got where he is
Is it his choice
Why won't he say
Is it alcoholic bliss

For some odd reason
I'm struck by this man
Who smells of rotten human flesh
What is his story
What could it be
That made a man eat trash

And then the man gets up
And inquires upon my stare
I say "You have captured
The interest of my heart
Please tell me your story
So that I can tell the world
Please tell me your story
So your story can be known"

I was born
So long ago
I don't remember the year
Times were so different
From then and now
The meaning of life has disappeared

When I was a boy
I went to church
But never could learn a thing
Then I realized
The truths inside
The words that gave life meaning

(Hope, peace, love)

Listen closely
To what I say
I want you to understand
The lines of religion
They do not apply
If you disown the laws of man

The world forsook me
So now I lay here
Shattered humbled yet free
This world can kill me
But I'll live on
For in the truth I believe

Down a dark alley
An old man falls dead
His words now in my head
