In the smoke filled room
I watched his face
As he made his next move
Perspiration ran down
His bearded face
Like rivulets of rain
Running over a rock
There was no expression
Only a placid emotionless face
His eyes were narrowed
And hardened like the gray steel of a gun
"It's your bet so draw," he snarled
With much impatience it seemed
Was he bluffing
Or was his hand that good
There was a lot of money at stake
But I was in too far to back out now
So I matched his raise,
And there was a hushed silence in the room
Everyone else dropped out
It was just he and I now
One by one we laid all our cards on the table
The winner would be wealthy

Just then I heard my name called again
It seemed to emanate from somewhere within
Then I blinked and the banker reappeared in front of me
Well the loan was approved
But the interest was quite high
We played a verbal game of poker,
And both made our best offer
With further negotiation the deal was made
But the parking ticket on my car financially spoiled my day
I guess life is just a game of poker [comments] => 4 [counter] => 155 [topic] => 25 [informant] => Willofree [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => MiscPoems )

Terry ... that is a game I'll remember !!!

I see this as another exploration in form style and storytelling from you. And a wonderful experiment at that.

Haha! This is really good Will...gave me a laugh. Like the metaphor here, and your sense of humour. Nothing like a parking ticket to bring you back to earth, huh?
Well done with this piece.
