all that’s heard is a screaming sound
an atrocity here means a payback there
the world gives a moan and we truly care

But the process seems all locked in political control
the ordinary person wonders what is their role
why does this cycle go round and round
when all that’s heard is a screaming sound?

A sense of helplessness fills us as we look on
we once felt there was hope but that’s all gone
this senseless cycle is locked deep in the “game”
a “game” that we know is simply insane

Day follows day of outrage and death
no sense of progress just another last breath
for all the hopes humankind has held out
all the ignoring of our one pleading shout

“Peace!” we cry but it’s blown by the wind
in a raging storm our hopes are pinned
on this or that response and well meant verse
as political actions only makes things worse

This endless cycle of death and decay
can’t help but bring us to futile dismay
as we watch our leaders blunder and fail
while louder grows each funereal wail

What levers can we pull to stop this madness?
what can we do our leaders to press?
the future looks bleak with no end in view
with politicians so blind and brains so few

What we can do is do what we can
be active and strident and confront their plan
show we wish change in each act and word
and an end to these politics of the absurd

  • Wow, I really do like this.
I've always hated politics, so I'm prob'ly just a tiny little bit biased. ;)

Your portrayal of the message is clear and delivered with strong impact; something to be commended for.

Flow and rhyme is also pretty good.

Overall, a powerful piece, and. . . so true.
