every gentle now and then you come back
out of a past neither of us really knew
still less apprehensive with total mind

save as sometimes I remember music

heard within the dreams of yesterday
and all the more real for that
buried beyond words to capture
beyond life's sad evolution

I made for you once a small poem
born out of a moving cameo I painted
of my working fragile kinetic miracles
at some pre-dawn Malden Carnival
wherein I tortured myself for letting you look
to far into the off-beat rhythm of my soul
and in mercy I kept it down
for fear you would discover me
thankfully you saw the gentle side
sparing me at least that truth
that so graced your early correspondence
but to no avail

Your presence fell exotic on my senses
in high contrast to everything else gray on my mind
I recall at last
how after talkative gigs of bites and ram
had traversed the mile between us
you brought to the surface of our dialog
something frightening your lack of commitment
long before the paltry promise of love forever
that once linked you and I

In turn you knew by then
the many weathered colors of my mind
that wandered about the hue of my words
laid out in uniform on the canvas of us

You scarred and shamed me with false intentions
my over zealous apathy still a tawdry fake
my well intentioned sophisticated take on life
a hollow laugh in an empty chasm my soul
my heart a vessel looted of compassion

Yesterday was something we savored
with a finer perception
a keener sense
than are likely to attend us forever more
They've ebbed away
found refuge on a safer shore
leaving fragile imprints forever etched on my mind

Now beached under a single star
guiding me to a new understanding and love
I feel you a nemesis of that light
entering the ever gentle now and then
traversed well beyond what was
but painful all the same [comments] => 15 [counter] => 197 [topic] => 44 [informant] => Man_On_High [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 20 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Nostalgic )

That was so absolutely wonderful. I was able to parallel it to a part
of my life, which is a gift of a writer - to make it so each person who
reads it can find their own truth. All of the little details you used
drew this poem together into a whole that was wonderful.

my love for you will always be;
its just me;
every time i drift away,
free me from my foray,
SHOW ME THE WAY;
Bridel my hopes, and cradel my dreams,
so I flourish by glorious means......
I'll always be there to cover your back
it's just a fact !!!! (one for every year)
With humor and charm,
we will keep each
other from any harm.
Gently Now and Then
you might have to teach
ME, - imagine ¿ LOL ....
± good or bad!
never to forget the music....... :-)~
you know i love you always and forever

Dearest, sweet Billy,

This is the third write of yours I've read tonight and all have left some sort of emptiness
upon my soul. Emotions.....tortured and tattered, but not so much so, it impairs your
writing. I feel a kind of despondency in you, though. How I do hope that these
magnificent writes of yours somehow eliviate the distress you so seemingly embrace.
Your work is impeccable, Billy. Flawless. Be proud. Reading here tonight, I am staggered.
And that, in itself, is no easy task.

always here....when needed...
*hugs*
