A one night stand
A result of years of curiosity
Proof of what I am not missing

I was supposed to see the truth
That the one I am with is the only one for me
Yet fate can be so cruel
For now my life is in upheaval

I learned something about myself
I learned a little more of who I am
I tried to incorporate that into my life
But my husband is not the other man

I love him with all my heart
His pain I cannot bear
After the initial betrayal
My life I tried to take

Thought a lesson here I learned
Never again would I stray
Yet day by day the yearning grows
Its harder every minute to ignore

Its not the feel of another’s arms
I don’t want intimacy
It’s the control the other has over me
My total surrender

I cannot find the words to explain
Daily my strength leaks from me
Sadness holds me down
As tears dry that can never be shed

I dwell upon my past mistake
Its only been a year next month
The feelings I experienced than
I cannot replace

I betrayed my husband
I betrayed the other
And even to this day
I am betraying myself

It should have been only a fling
A one night stand
A result of years of curiosity
Proof of what I am not missing

I was supposed to see the truth
