A case of abuse happened, a few years back,
My grandson injured, I wanted to attack!
But I listened to others, what they had to say.
If I killed the man, I’d surely pay.
Three years later, the gavel swung,
Ninety days in jail, for what he had done.
The man’s now gone, from my grandson’s life.
Left my girl behind, needed more spice.
Everyone thought, the past lay behind.
All swept away, in the hands of time.
The boy came to visit, a few months ago.
What he asked, has tore my soul.
Said, “Gramps, you love Na-Na and watch over her.
You love momma, cause she’s your girl.”
I nodded my head, wondering where he would go.
I kept silent, I didn’t know.
“You love aunt “Beanie“, and Spencer too,
I know this, they belong to you.
You love me, there’s no doubt.”
What he said next, ripped my heart out.
Said, “I still remember, what he did to me.
Remember it well, and I was only three.
I think of the hands, the knuckles and boots.
But Gramps, when that happened….
Where were you?”
