It’s become a lot easier to tread water,
now that it is pooling around our ankles.
and the weather for today – everything!

It’s hot, getting hotter, but it’s all more extreme;
Nature is more volatile, at least that’s how it seems.
from snow and rain to fire and drought
—Mother wants to drive us out.

We created this new era, the Anthropocene,
now Gaia is on the tipping point, a few degrees from mean.
mass extinctions, from sea to air to land;
even the staunchest deniers realised we are canned.
industrialists and politicians say they’re not to blame,
while outraged children pout and decry that adults should feel shame.

Welcome to the new normal,
where we melt in Summer,
freeze in Winter, mourn lost Autumn
and dodge giant hail in Spring:
trembling under raucous skies,
to count our provisions
and watch the water rise.
