entangles me in ways uncharted
that promise wasn’t hard to make
or keep; I’m here; I haven’t faded

of all the ghosts that have come and gone
your absence still echoes on and on
those moments knock the breath right out of me
and I can’t help but wish that history would lie to me

every scathing glance
your cruelest stance
those savage hands
the truth you bury
weight I carried
steps so wary

I know it’s nothing that he needs
but for an instant, logic recedes
it kills me that you’re missing it
that you made the choice to up and quit

and as all this time passes so fast
I still have to remind myself that
this was nothing you wanted from the start
and there was never more than a day he was in your heart

so we move forward
though disordered
onward and upward
we’ve moved through the fear
you disappeared

the purest love from smallest hearts
entangles me in ways uncharted
