We were modern as could be; with wonders of the age like these:
To answer phones we had machines! For sneezes, antihistamines.
We invented modems too, power steering; super glue.

Corning ware and non-stick pans. Remote controls for TV fans.
We read Colliers and relied, on Playboy, MAD and TV Guide;
Reader’s Digest, Life
and LOOK, Betty Crocker when we cooked.
Til we found a mealtime winner; Tin pan trays of TV Dinners!

Kids first learned to read a lot, thanks to Dick and Jane and Spot.
The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew; Golden Books and Ding Dong School.
Kids had coonskin Crocket caps; Pogo sticks and cowboy hats;
Silly putty, hula hoops; Red Ryder rifles they could shoot.

Cowboy outfits, even chaps; And pistols that went BANG with caps.
Teens were cruising, getting pinned; bopping sock hops in the gym.
Going steady, in the grandstands. Dancing with American Bandstand.
The modern office went electric; With the IBM Selectric.

Carbon paper duplicated what the typing pool created;
Ten key adders counted beans; And we cranked mimeograph machines.
3-D movies made the scene; We watched thru glasses red and green.
And Sony played in stereo, for our transistor radios.

Schools required vaccines you know; when Jonas Salk cured polio.
TV went from black and white to living color overnight.
A rainbow peacock let us see; Bonanza-colored NBC
Life with Father brought us home; to Dragnet, Gunsmoke, Twilight Zone.

Thanks to Rawhides TV fame, Clint Eastwood was a household name.
We were styling yes indeed; Had everything that we could need!
Every generation makes; progress, and of course mistakes...
So here’s to you who never quit..til you made a success of it!
