I see so many things that remind me of you

A mountain worn away by wind
Sunlight breaking through the folds of dying leaves
An autumn rain

A light
Bright and furious
A sparkling sea

Standing at the shores of memory
I remember the tide
The island air

As a child, I could not see the stars
Their light too far for my vision
Yet I would gaze into the sky
Trusting the awe in my father’s eyes

Then I saw the sea
The rocky shore
An empty blue
Shining in the starlight
