it is the destination for long lost memories
a place of starlight and glowing moonbeams
a place we have to search for through many crooked trees

it is there that we will find pixies, ogres, and elves
hiding by a lazy brook or a meadow edge
nearby cottages might hold potions on their shelves
and possibly, counted sheep will be falling softly from a ledge

it is in this Canterbury where humans have taken flight
soaring through the air without purpose or need for wings
something to make us dizzy, something to cause delight
we land in fields of emerald, inhabited by tiny beings

mountains appear and disappear under the wild sky
where can be heard the foghorn of a passing ocean liner
bottle rockets and rocket ships may come whizzing on by
then, one might spy a pickaxe in the hands of a sleeping miner

we never know what Canterbury ever has in store
but it will be there whenever we visit our next time
just keep cheerful with an arrival, and wait for nothing more
Canterbury does exist, it is very real within the mind...
