life has all the right ingredients
but it can be a recipe for disaster;
sometimes it feels like the pits,
other times cheesy and overdone.

what a bizarre smorgasbord of good and evil!
served up or taken away,
dished up hot or cold,
while the greedy keep their noses in the trough,
and the masses fight over the crumbs.

sure are some hot tamales out there,
as well as assorted flakes and fruit loops.
there are tasty distractions aplenty,
most deceptive on the palate,
but not exactly food for the soul.

watch for the cereal offenders in the shadows;
sure, they’ll try to butter you up
or put you in a jam,
even cook the books
if you churn too hard.

when it’s too hot, get out of the kitchen;
in hard times, trim the fat.
when all is in front of you, dig in
and enjoy the sauce of all goodness
as an entrée into the next world.
