Oh, Night!
Us, all we are, near and far,
by You,
of consequence slight:
Oh, Heavens!
nightly sing Your similar silent symphony;
dark and light, Your beauty bright;
Celestial Movement No. Infinity.
Hot, though cold,
those blinking motes,
so appear to me to be;
Your pinpoint trillion twinkling notes,
to never touch, to ever see.
Though here, in the sphere of a single blip,
for narrow minds, as Deity thus assigned,
our Maestro’s random wand of many suns,
what specious thought to worship gas
with trillions round and this The One?
