Not sure where to start<br />
but I will give it my best<br />
I have been thinking about people’s thoughts<br />
I just can’t give it a rest<br />
<br />
I find myself in much confusion<br />
about how civilians see Veterans today<br />
I find some peoples words disgusting<br />
when they speak, thinking they know about what they say<br />
<br />
It seems everyone went to law school<br />
and knows what for our country is right<br />
They even know that our soldiers serve<br />
but it isn’t freedom for what they fight<br />
<br />
All Soldiers are given orders<br />
our government tells them what to do<br />
All have volunteered for direction or a career<br />
but realize the sacrifices to be made too<br />
<br />
In the hearts and minds<br />
of all service men and woman today<br />
They serve proudly<br />
and wouldn’t have it any other way<br />
<br />
Without our military<br />
our country would be weak and fall<br />
There would be no more freedom<br />
this is something someday you will recall<br />
<br />
Even though our government is changing<br />
many bad apples are politicians full of greed<br />
The changes are for the worst<br />
it won’t be long before we start to bleed<br />
<br />
They want to cut the Veterans pay<br />
without batting an eye to cutting their very own<br />
How could we elect people of such ignorance<br />
every day they allow it to be shown<br />
<br />
If you have never served<br />
you will never know what the day of a soldier will ever be<br />
The discipline, camaraderie, and hard training<br />
such long hours in extreme weather conditions you’ll never see<br />
<br />
A soldier’s job<br />
is no ordinary job you see<br />
There is no hesitation or calling in sick<br />
it’s just the way it has to be<br />
<br />
When a soldier goes off to war<br />
they don’t know if they are coming back<br />
Leaving family, husbands, wives, and children behind<br />
off they go with a weapon and a rucksack<br />
<br />
Some come home and some are killed<br />
losing a comrade is always hard to take<br />
Just know the ones that do come home<br />
deal with many feelings that are not fake<br />
<br />
Veterans do struggle<br />
civilian life will never again be the same<br />
Living a life again<br />
becomes a very hard game<br />
<br />
Many emotions built up inside<br />
some vets stay cold and don’t allow it to show<br />
Other vets break down<br />
everything gets so overwhelming, you need to know<br />
<br />
Many vets are now amputees<br />
they deal with problems such as PTSD<br />
Many can’t handle life after war<br />
suicide is a way out that they see<br />
<br />
Our own government is failing us<br />
making promises, then taking them back<br />
However it was okay to make a promise<br />
then send us to places like Afghanistan or Iraq<br />
<br />
So yes<br />
American Soldiers do what they are told<br />
They do fight for American freedom<br />
they make sacrifices that are bold<br />
<br />
I too am a veteran<br />
many mixed emotions inside of me<br />
Taking all the drugs and shots they give<br />
having a lifelong effect is what I now see<br />
<br />
I am not the same<br />
I only hope I can continue to make it through each day<br />
Because sometimes I am at a point<br />
where I say there has got to be a better way<br />
<br />
Pain is a constant<br />
it’s the only thing I seem to know or feel<br />
My memory has been stolen<br />
anxiety overtakes me, making me think the moment is real<br />
<br />
Sometimes I am a very angry person<br />
these feelings often come and go<br />
Sometimes I just have to get away<br />
and what I feel, I just don’t want you to know<br />
<br />
That’s about all I have to say<br />
I hope some people get a clue<br />
From this Veteran to all the others<br />
Thank you for your service proud and true<br />
