coming before it strikes as

an angel, innocent and lovely
when my dreams become my

I still sleep with a light on
like I did when I was little
because I think that even
though the monsters are
no longer confined to just
the space beneath my bed
I think that I can beat them
so long as I can see what/'/s
coming before it strikes as
with all the other problems
in my life I hide from them
beneath the covers although
I know that when the real
problems hit I won/'/t be able
to stop them, I won/'/t be able
to see when they/'/re coming
my light won/'/t flicker on and
off; like some horror movie
The man with the chainsaw
will come to me dressed like
an angel, innocent and lovely
when my dreams become my
nightmares
