“Don't forget bananas! Love you!”;
an inside smirk.
Cheery though, “Love you too!” surfed back to the banana lover
on invisible waves.

Oh, this day, these days;
'Love' is thrown in with produce when
“Bye!” would more than do as truth.

“Becka? It's me, Jeannie! Last night from the bar?
You are? No, I'm not far. See you soon...
love you!”

“Love you too!”
Becka sets the phone down, “Jeannie who?”

Love; the word...
upon a time reserved
for tenderness, the intimate,
the private and special,
the ultimate of soul to soul;
earned,
not tossed about with bananas
and names just last night learned.

Do as I...it's okay;
today, anytime to not say you love when you don't;
try saying 'Bye” and maybe they won't
hurl back to you the insult of the lie.

The fear of busting the balloon on honesty,
in the end,
leads to gloom and empty rooms
because “I love you”,
tossed on the wind and wires freely as breath
becomes a lustreless ring;
In time, all “I love You- love you too!”
are rendered cheap and old, grooves
soon show it,
then, discarding all as trite and false
someday it may be real gold
but you won't know it.
