The Africa cross border driver.
Very much Africa's version of MacGyver.
Each trip is like a mission into the unknown.
No never once is fear shown.
This very brave lone warrior.
At a quick glance a very rugged exterior.
But spend some time with him.
You'll see a very different man under the skin.
The majority have a wife and kids at home.
Waiting while he is out on the road alone.
Day in and day out braving the elements.
Excruciating heat dust and the odd elephant.
This is one of the hardest occupations.
That requires immense patience.
Days of sitting doing nothing.
But I must say the sunsets are stunning.
This is also precious time on your hands.
Getting together with fellow drivers cracking a few cold cans.
Sharing your experiences and stories.
Of brave soldiers and their days of glory.
The younger generation listening ever so intensive.
As the tellers face and hands become ever more expressive.
This is where we older hands share knowledge.
Almost like an informal collage.
The classroom is around a camp fire.
Surprisingly the youngsters have a desire.
To learn all they possibly can.
From us older hands.
Yes so many things come together.
To bring us cross border drivers pleasure.
So far away from our homes.
Eventually returning to the end zone.
